With a few simple tips in mind, you’ll be helping people complete new tasks and reach new goals in no time!
How to write a “How-to” article in 6 easy steps
- Select your topic
Choose a subject you know a lot and choose a clear title, that should be easy to understand and does not create confusion. It also does not contain any grammar errors and selects it in the start so you can focus on a specific topic.
- Select your Audience
Select the content and tone according to the audience. Try to find out whether your reader is someone who’s dealing with a serious issue, trying to learn something, or just looking for fun articles to read.
Research the subject using reliable resources. Check for articles written by experts in the field and published on reputable websites, like medical journals, authoritative blogs, and government websites.
- Setup a draft
Prepare a draft with the outline to help keep yourself organized. Keeping your audience in mind, write a draft incorporating the new supporting information you’ve collected. Sometimes what you’ve learned in Steps 2 and 3 may compel you to start over with a completely fresh draft.
- Make it specific
Use clear and commanding language and address the reader directly. Double-check to see that you’ve included every required step in the process. How-to articles have to be thorough.
- Proofreading for any error
Read, revise and repeat before you publish it. Then Rewrite, read aloud, rewrite, read aloud, rewrite, find a proofreader and, only when you’re satisfied you’ve written an effective how-to article, publish your piece.
